Uruguayan Pay-TV grew in June and reached 473,000 subscribers
According to data released by the Uruguayan Communications Service Regulating Unit, as of 2010 first semester closing, 473,000 Pay-TV subscribers were recorded. As compared to May, 12,000 new subscribers have been added; the highest figure of the year, which accounts for the 52% of clients recorded since January: a total of 23,000 clients.
Since June 2009, 34,000 subscribers have been added. In January of such year, there 450,000 clients were recorded. In June 2010, the capital city of Montevideo reached its 204,000 subscribers. Such 12,000-subscriber increase recorded in June looks pretty high if it is taken into account that from April to May of such year, such figure had only amounted to 1,000 users.
Over the first semester 2010, the service penetration per household reached a 35%. The main operator in Montevideo is Multicanal with the 25% of the market. TCC comes second with the 23% and it is followed by Nuevo Siglo and Montecable with the 22%. At a national level, Multicanal holds the 11%, TCC and Nuevo Siglo record the 10%, Montecable has the 9% and DirecTV Uruguay records the 5%.
