First 24/7 3D TV channel with 2,000 hours of content

Free SAS and WildEarth Media have announced the launch of the First 24/7 channel in full stereo 3D bringing more than 2,000 hours of fresh 3D content per year to French audiences though the FREEBOX.
Free is a subsidiary of Iliad. The Iliad Group is a major player in the French telecommunication and internet access market via Free and Alice (4,514,000 ADSL subscribers as of 30 June 2010), Onetel and Iliad Telecom (fixed telephony operators) as well as Free Mobile.
The Iliad Group is listed on the Euronext Paris Eurolist under the ticker ILD.
For more than three years WildEarth has been broadcasting on the Internet, positioning the company at the forefront of live interactive broadcasting. By broadcasting authentic and "live" wildlife experiences the programming is clearly differentiated from traditional documentary productions.
"We are providing an immersive experience in nature," explains Graham Wallington CEO and co-founder of WildEarth.TV. "Unlike other wildlife broadcasters, who are in the business of creating documentaries, our focus is on faithfully recreating a real life experience in nature."
"We are creating a sense of telepresence by transmitting live and giving people the feeling of what it is like to be on safari. There is no scripted narrative, no staged events or cutaways to recorded footage of lion kills. This is safari as it happens."
The introduction of 3D stereo promises to enhance the simulation of actual experience even further. Early next year the channel will also broadcast live dives featuring sharks and whales. Both companies decided on the side-by-side 3DHD format but will also offer the channel in HD, for wildlife fans without a new 3DTV yet.
