YouTube has revealed that 72 hours of film are now being uploaded to its servers every minute as it marks seven years since going live to the public.
User uploads – which include home videos, music and TV clips – have more than doubled in the last two years, helping the site attract four billion clicks a day.
‘It’s not just musicians and film-makers, ordinary people are putting their content online and reaching a global audience whose numbers can rival professionals,’ said YouTube. ‘It’s a fantastic platform and having access to a global audience can mean even niche video subjects can attract huge audiences.’
She added smartphones helped drive up numbers, with mobile traffic tripling to 600 million a day last year.
YouTube is believed to be the third most visited website behind Google and Facebook.
