BBC to review radio in devolved nations
Monday, October 11 2010,
The BBC Trust has today launched a service review of the corporation's national radio stations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
The 12-week review will cover BBC Radio Ulster, Radio Foyle, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio nan Gàidheal, BBC Radio Wales and BBC Radio Cymru.
Licence fee payers will be able to give their views on the services, and the Trust will use that feedback in conjunction with audience data to recommend improvements to the stations.
In its review, the Trust will consider the "quality, distinctiveness and value for money" of the stations, with a final report due to be published in 2011.
"Over two million listeners tune into these radio stations each week," said Sir Michael Lyons, the Trust's outgoing chairman.
"Part of the Trust's job is to make sure the BBC is serving all audiences around the UK, so we want to hear from as many of these listeners as possible with their thoughts on the services.
"We want to know what they like, what they dislike and what, if anything, the BBC should do to make these radio stations better."
Separately, the Trust also announced that its service review of BBC Radio 3, Radio 4 and Radio 7 is "scheduled to report soon", after it launched back in March.
