Sugar furious at Hunt's BBC attacks
Wednesday, October 6
Broadcasting Lord Alan Sugar has reportedly told culture secretary Jeremy Hunt to "mind his own bloody business" over the BBC's finances.
Over the past year, Hunt has mounted sustained calls for the BBC to reduce its costs and open up its accounts to scrutiny from the National Audit Office.
Lord Sugar, who was business tsar to the previous Labour government, is particularly angry at the minister's suggestion that the licence fee could be cut, reports The Mirror.
"I think Jeremy Hunt needs to get off the case of the BBC and mind his own bloody business," he said.
"Go and learn how to fill out expenses forms, because he made a cock-up of it twice. Once you're forgiven, but twice you think, 'Are you that clever to be a minister?'"
Lord Sugar claimed that the public get "incredible value" from the current licence fee of £145.50 a year.
"People have got a £30-a-month mobile phone bill, a £50-a-month Sky bill, £20-a-month internet, and you are paying £14-a-month for the BBC," he said.
"It gets you all the radio, four channels of TV, that great website, iPlayer. It's incredible value."
Lord Sugar, who returns to BBC One tonight for a new series of The Apprentice, also gave his backing for new Labour leader Ed Miliband to become prime minister should the coalition government collapse.
