Paramount show secures online VOD deals
Paramount Pictures has struck a series of international digital distribution deals for The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers, an online adventure series. The series, which Paramount calls The LXD, has already been a hit online in the US, where it is available via Hulu
The series has topped the Hulu viewing charts, beating established TV shows, such as Glee, which convinced Paramount to test the international market. It struck its first VOD deals in Norway, Denmark and Finland last month and has reached an agreement with RedLever, an online entertainment group, to deliver the series over the international Joost Video Network.
“We see this leading to a lot of other business outside the internet business for The LXD brand, such as a TV [programme] or a stage show,” said Tom Lesinski, president of Paramount Digital Entertainment.
Tsutaya TV, a Japanese group, will distribute the ad-supported series to web-enabled TVs, Blu-ray recorders and STBs in that country in October. Paramount is also working on deals to distribute the series to the UK, Australia, Spain and France by the end of 2010.
