Spanish TV producer laSexta’s Mediapro has denied applying anti-competitive practices whereby its football rights are linked to the hiring of its production and signal transport services staff.
A statement issued by Mediapro refuted the claims and said:
we offer to our clients the access to a final product such as the live transmissions of the football matches and other sports such as the Formula 1 or the World Cup
A producer was recently accused by the Spanish Competition National Commission—the governmental association watching for the good practices in the telecommunications and audiovisual fields— of forcing those who buy its soccer rights to also contract its production and signal transport services.
The company’s management have given assurances that their practices are within Spanish law and that the same principle applies to producers and broadcasters in the rest of European and US.
We are very surprised the Competition National Commission opened a file against us after a claiming by one of the first multinationals in the telecommunications field which has assured we limit them in transmitting signals in the Spanish market
