CNN Expands Contract With Level 3
Telecom Provider Installs Managed Video Network Services At News Net's Atlanta Headquarters
Todd Spangler -- Multichannel News, 9/9/2010 11:34:00 AM
Turner Broadcasting System's CNN has expanded its relationship with telecommunications provider Level 3 Communications to include a managed video delivery and networking solution installed at CNN's global headquarters in Atlanta, as well as augmented fiber capacity into the news network's studios in New York City.
Level 3, which has worked with CNN for more than 20 years, has historically provided its Vyvx video backhaul services to the network. With the expanded deal, CNN's Atlanta headquarters have direct access to Level 3's IP backbone and Vyvx network, plus Internet access over 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections.
Level 3's Managed Video Network Services platform provides transmission of both video and data from a single box, allowing CNN to share video and data among multiple locations.
"With the speed at which information travels today, news cycles for broadcasters like CNN have accelerated. As a result, their connectivity needs have grown and their video and data must move faster and more efficiently," Level 3 president of sales Andrew Crouch said in a statement. "We developed our MVNS platform to meet the needs of the most demanding broadcast customers, to improve business efficiencies and digital workflows, and to support future innovation in the way content is delivered."
