DR launches two new channels
June 7, 2012
Danish public broadcaster DR is launching two new channels and has reorganised a number of its existing channels.
The broadcaster, which is funded by a licence fee, is launching a new kids channel and a youth-skewing network. It is launching Lille Ramasjang, a preschool channel targeting children aged three to six. The broadcaster’s original kids channel Ramasjang will now target kids aged seven to 12.
DR is also launching DR3, which will target viewers aged 15-39 and will air a mix of drama series, comedies and reality shows and will aim to “surprise, provoke and challenge”.
The launch of the pair of digital channels comes as DR announced the closure of two of its existing channels. It will close DR HD and news and current affairs network DR Update. News and current affairs programming will now have a more prominent role on DR2, while high definition content will also be available across its bouquet of channels.
“The changes are part of an extensive reorganisation of DR’s television channels,” the company noted in a statement.
