BT rolls out fibre optic broadband in Harrogate
Monday, November 8th
Harrogate in North Yorkshire is the latest community to benefit from BT's fibre deployment.
BT has made its fibre optic broadband service available to more residents in North Yorkshire.
The first homes in Harrogate are now able to connect to the technology, which offers download speeds of up to 40Mb/s - a figure that could rise to 60Mb/s in the future.
When the improvements are finished over the next few weeks, around 33,500 businesses and homes in the area will be able to access super-fast broadband from BT.
This development comes as part of the telecoms giant's UK-wide fibre deployment, which the company has claimed is one of the largest investments in the world that does not rely on funding from the public sector.
John Anderson, regional director for Yorkshire and the Humber at BT, said: "This is another exciting development in the region's fast-moving broadband story."
Around 90,000 properties in the London communities of Parsons Green, Merton Park, Mile End, Skyport and New Cross are also set to get access to fibre optic broadband over the coming weeks.
