LG have introduced two new 3D enabled plasma TVs with 600Hz sub field drive technology, the LG 50PX990 and LG60PX990.
With the arrival of 3D TV, plasma has been enjoying something of a resurgence. A quicker panel response time has the advantage of reducing 'Crosstalk', an undesirable side effect associated with 3D images.
Initially focusing on LCD 3D screens, LG have been prompted to concentrate more resources on their plasma division with screens which promise to reduce the 'Crosstalk' phenomenon. This occurs when images intended for the left or right eye remain on screen fractionally too long causing leakage into the image intended for the other eye, with resultant 'ghosting'.
The new screens feature MPF (Multi-Picture Format) support, which lets users view 3D pictures taken by their 3D cameras directly on the 3D TV screen.
The PX990 are amongst the first 3D Plasma TVs with THX certification, which indicates a level of display capability on par with the film maker's studio. Elsewhere you get DLNA certification, Wifi connectivity and LG’s Netcast web portal.
As well as regular 3D you also get LGs take on 'Pseudo' 2D-3D conversion which gives any video source an extra dimension. You also get a pair of 3D glasses with each TV.
LG have also added a Freeview HD tuner and their Tru Black filter for enhanced contrast.
The LG 50PX990 and LG60PX990 are available in the UK now.
