UKTV extends Red Bee distribution deal

YouViewRed Bee MediaUKTVDigital TVUKTV, the owner of digital channels Watch, GOLD and Good Food, has extended its digital broadcast operations deal with Red Bee Media.
Under the agreement, Red Bee will continue to deliver UKTV's core portfolio of standard definition channels, including Dave, Alibi, Yesterday and Home.
Red Bee, which was previously BBC Broadcast, will also look at "emerging technologies" that could allow UKTV to launch new and enhanced services in the future.
That will include exploring a "more cost-efficient and scalable" media management system for delivering content to multiple platforms, such as IPTV service YouView.
Julia Jordan, UKTV's executive director of business and operations, said: "By confirming our already strong strategic partnership with Red Bee Media we at UKTV feel confident in our ability to continue to evolve as a successful multi-channel, multi-platform provider."
Red Bee Media chief commercial officer Alan Wright added: "Given the depth of our partnership, forged over the last five years, we are delighted to be confirmed as the long-term strategic partner for UKTV; a partnership based upon trust, collaboration and mutual respect.
"Digital platforms are set to become an increasingly core component of a broadcaster's strategy, both in terms of reaching audiences and generating revenue.
"Red Bee Media is perfectly poised to keep UKTV at the forefront of this change in the new three screen world. We very much look forward to continuing to support and shape UKTV's digital broadcast requirements."
Last week, UKTV launched Eden HD on Sky, marking its second high definition channel after the launch of Good Food HD in August.
