The National Council for Radio and Television has refused to renew the broadcasting licence of the Kyiv Television and Radio Company. Deputy Head of the National Council Larysa Mudrak announced this at a briefing after a council meeting in Kyiv on Wednesday. She also said that the council would announce a tender for the channel’s frequencies.
Explaining the reason for denying the licence to the channel, Ms Mudrak said that the channel has recently received three warnings and had to pay a fine. “This is an unprecedented number of violations,” she said.
Ms Mudrak said the company repeatedly violated the law on advertising, in particular, showing commercials for medicines and treatments without licences. According to her, the company also exceeded the allowed number of religious programmes, including children’s programmes with religious content.
