Harris analyzes the possibility to produce DTT equipment in Argentina
The American company Harris is studying the possibility to produce DTT transmitters in Argentina, jointly with its official representative in the country Viditec. The effectiveness of such project will "depend on the Argentine Government's interest", stated the VP for Latin America and the Caribbean Nahuel Villegas. "If we have a positive answer, we might implement it soon", he pointed out. The company is about to open commercial offices in Buenos Aires. At present, Harris is one of the two transmitter suppliers chosen by the State to deploy digital TV in the country, the other supplier is Nec.
Harris produces medium and low power UHF transmitters in its facility located in Brazil. The idea is to replicate that model in the Argentine facility. According to what Eduardo De Nucci, Viditec Sales director, told NexTV Latam, the Government ordered 24 devices for its DTT project, which will be installed between November this year and January 2011, in six towers located in the provinces of C?rdoba, Mendoza, Tucum?n, R?o Negro (in the city of Bariloche), Tierra del Fuego and Jujuy.
Villegas confirmed that in those countries where ISDB-T was chosen, "Harris is a 100% present". And he pointed out that Buenos Aires office will serve as support for the work done by Viditec in such country. Harris and Viditec executives also highlighted "the Argentine Government's DTT support". According to what Harris CEO Carlos Martinangeli told Infobae.com, if devices are produced in Argentina, Harris will join the Japanese Nec, which has recently announced its decision to manufacture DTT equipment in the country.
