GVT chose Ericsson for its hybrid DTH-IPTV
According to what sources of competitors in the RFP process told NexTV Latam, the Brazilian telecommunications operator GVT, owned by Vivendi Group, chose Ericsson as its hybrid DTH-IPTV platform provider. Neither GVT nor Ericsson has confirmed the agreement officially. Ericsson will integrate Verimatriz CAS for the hybrid platform, which would start working during the first semester in 2011. Previously, GVT will open an RFP for STBs.
GVT will announce the outcome officially once the agreement is passed and executed. Spokesmen of the company confirmed that the selection process "has already finished". Four companies competed in the final "short list" for the platform RFP: Ericsson, Nokia-Siemens, Huawei and Alcatel-Lucent.
The project included four different RFPs: the teleport (uplink), the satellite service, the hybrid platform and SBTs. The first three processes have already finished and the fourth one will be launched now since technical characteristics for Ericsson's encoders and Verimatrix CAS have been disclosed.
GVT is expanding its broad band services over Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and the rest of the country, and is planning to launch its Pay-TV service at a national level. Until last year, the company operated in Brasilia and the south area of the country, with base in Curitiba
