Sky Deutschland is to launch a dedicated 3D channel in Germany and Austria this October, the satcaster has confirmed.
The side-by-side formatted channel will show a mix of sports, films, documentary features and music, and will be available to subscribers with the recently launched Sky+ HD receiver and a suitable 3D TV display.
No details of the pricing structure have been announced – in the UK Sky 3D will be available to top tier HD subscribers – but the channel will be free-of-charge to Sky Deutschland subscribers until the end of December. The German version will be available to both satellite subscribers and those on the Kabel BW network.
Sky Deutschland has run a number of 3DTV tests, most notably in March when the Bundesliga match between Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburger SV was shown in 3D to an invited audience in Munich.
