Harris opened a factory to produce medium and low power UHF transmitters in Brazil. The facility can generate 30 devices on a monthly basis; a figure that will increase as additional personnel is hired. The company wants to export in the rest of Latin America, including in those countries where some other standard but ISDB-T has been chosen.
Felipe Luna, Harris Regional Director, told Tela Viva that the business plan was designed with the purpose of covering at least the 20% of the local digital transmitter market.
This possibility to manufacture in Brazil enabled the company to reduce about a 20% its transmitter costs. The facility is also fitted with a laboratory for clients to test the device before installing it. To such ends, the company has been authorized low power broadcastings inside the factory.
