The Polish pay-TV market is close to saturation and only likely to see modest growth in 2011.
According to Rzeczpospolita, the market already amounts to over 10 million DTH, cable and IPTV homes, with the leading players being Cyfrowy Polsat and Cyfra+, with 3.2 million and around 1.5 million subscribers respectively.
As a result of this near-saturation – the total number of TV homes in Poland is around 13.5 million – operators such as Cyfrowy Polsat are changing their strategy, making proprietary content available for the first time to competitors and instead focusing on the rollout of HD services.
Projections of subscriber figures for Cyfrowy Polsat at year’s end vary from 3.38 million to 3.6 million, while the DTH platform n could see its total rise from the current 730,000 to 800,000.
Data published by Eutelsat puts the number of digital satellite pay-TV homes in Poland at 6.1 million.
