Sky grows and reaches 2,75 million subscribers
During the 3Q10, Sky Mexico, DTH owned by Televisa Group and DirecTV Group, added 304,000 subscribers, thus closing such period with a total of 2,75 million clients. In the previous quarter, the company had added 251,000 new users, which, by then, accounted for its record already surpassed this month. Such growth was fostered by the success of low cost new packages and the broadcasting of the last eight Soccer World Cup 2010 games, three of which were broadcasted exclusively. If such performance were to be kept, Sky would reach the three million clients by year end.
According to data released by Televisa Group, as of September 30th, 2010, the subscriber base increased to 2,753,047. In the same period in 2009, such figure amounted to 1,816,359 clients. In the last 12 months, the Mexican subscriber base added more than 900,000 users, though the DTH also operates in Central America.
The operator also recorded a 15.5% increase in sales. The segment utility recorded a 29.3% increase. Televisa group has the 58.9% of Sky Mexico stake; whereas DirecTV Group owns the remaining 41.3%.
