Sony launches first Google TVs

Sony has begun selling its first Google TV-enabled TV sets in the US.

The sets, initially available in the Sony Style shop, with mass-market chain Best Buy to follow soon after, are priced between US$600 (€430) and US$1,400, and feature Dual View, allowing users to watch TV and use the Twitter social networking site at the same time, or find related content on the web.

Sony will provide applications from the Android Market from hearly next year. The TV sets also feature Sony’s Powered by Qriocity video-on-demand service and a range of pre-installed apps from the likes of Netflix and YouTube.

The TV sets come complete with a wireless keyboard. Consumers will be able to use Android-based phones remote controls via an app to be launched later this year.
Sony is also providing Google TV-enabled Blu-ray players that can connect existing HD TVs with the Google service.
