HDTV available to more Finnish DTT homes
Finnish telco DNA’s digital-terrestrial HDTV network will be available to 1.5 million people by the end of the year, the company has announced.
By the end of 2010, the network is set to cover the Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa, Turku, Lahti, H?meenlinna and Tampere regions. In 2011, DNA's network will be expanded to Pori, Kotka, Lappeenranta, Kouvola, Kokkola, Vaasa, Sein?joki, Jyv?skyl?, Mikkeli and Savonlinna. By the end of next year, the network’s coverage will exceed 60% of the population, which is a requirement for the operating licence, according to DNA.
The antenna network, supplied by Ericsson, will be built on DNA's mobile networks base stations. In September, the Finnish government amended DNA’s DTT licence to enable it to offer standard-definition content as well as HDTV.
