MOBILE GADGETMAKERNokia has released a web TV template based around the Symbian^3 OS as part of its push to stuff more telly applications on MOBILE phones.
According to a Nokia spokesman the template makes it a doddle for content providers to mobilise their existing web TV service.
Using the template, they can build an app that is downloadable from the Ovi Store. This template is based on web runtime software, so they can easily customise the web TV app according to each outfit's own branding.
So far NRK, TV2 Norge, Viasat and YLE have used the template and Nokia claims to have signed up 50 content owners.
Nokia will have to move fast as Google will be pushing in hard into the mobile web TV market based around its Android OS and Google TV.
The way things are stacking up at the moment, it seems unlikely that Nokia use of Symbian^3 will be a clear winner on the TV front
