Cable driving Czech digital growth
October 7,
Cable is one of the main drivers in the Czech Republic’s transition to digital broadcasting, according a study undertaken by the Czech Association of Electronic Communications (CAEC) and published by Parabola.
It says that digital TV signals distributed by Cable networks are now available to 90% of Czech households within reach of cable networks. Furthermore, 75% of cable TV customers in the Czech Republic are offered the chance to watch digital cable TV.
The number of cable homes in the Czech Republic stood at 1.08 million at the end of Q3, or 50,000 more than at the same period last year, indicating long-term growth in the industry.
ARPU is also growing in the cable industry, which has prepared well in advance for the transition to digital broadcasting.
The first digital cable services were launched in the Czech Republic in 2006, with HD services making their full debut in 2008, two years after the start of experimental transmissions in the format.
