180 quangos could be set for scrappage while another 124 could merge according to a report by the BBC, which could see Postcom and Ofcom merged.
The BBC’s Politics Show has claimed to have seen proposals for the further cuts to be made by the Government of taxpayer funded organisations which has been linked to all major government departments and includes the abolition of the Health Protection Agency, UK Film Council, Audit Commission and Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority as was previously announced, while the future of a dozen other organisations has also been called into question.
The Department of Health and the Ministry of Justice are though the face the highest number of quangos to be axed including the Olympic Park Legacy Company and Cycling England.
UK Sport and Sport England and the Gambling Commission and National Lottery Commission could also be merged while the future of tourism bodies Visit England and Visit Britain are also being called into question.
