FreeviewDigital TVDigital UK has confirmed that thousands of viewers in the Anglia region will make the switch to digital television next summer.
In July 2011, the digital switchover will commence at the Tacolneston and Sudbury transmitter groups covering Norfolk, Suffolk and parts of Essex.
The five analogue TV channels will be permanently switched off to be replaced by the Freeview digital terrestrial television (DTT) service, which will reach virtually every household across the east of the region.
After the switch, tens of thousands of homes previously in "digital blackspots" from King's Lynn to Lowestoft to Clacton-on-Sea will be able to receive Freeview for the first time.
The Anglia region will also receive Freeview HD in 2011 as part of the current rollout timetable for the high definition DTT service.
Digital UK and the Switchover Help Scheme - which provides switchover assistance to vulnerable people - have jointly launched a public information campaign to ensure viewers in the region are prepared for the change.
"Today's announcement paves the way for a new era in broadcasting for viewers in parts of Suffolk and Essex," said Peter Monteith, Digital UK's regional manager for Anglia.
"We're preparing for the end of the analogue TV era and the dawn of a fully digital age in which everyone can enjoy extra choice and easier recording.
"Digital UK and the Switchover Help Scheme will ensure people know about this important change, and that advice and practical support are available."
Earlier in the week, the BBC-administered Switchover Help Scheme announced that it has now installed receiver equipment for more than 350,000 households in the UK.
