Today, Thursday, September 17, MTV will make its debut on Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) as a free to air channel.
Until now, MTV Espana was only available on cable, satellite and IPT after it was launched 10 years ago. As a multi-platform brand, MTV Espana has been involved in pay TV, online content on mtv.es, mobile wap portal, credit card with added value services and live music events such as MTV Winter and MTV Galicia.
MTV will launch with a live countdown to the first broadcast of the channel. VJ Johann Wald will welcome the audience from the White Carpet at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards in LA. The world’s brightest stars, from Lady Gaga to Eminem, will join MTV Spain in celebrating the channel’s launch on to DTT.
Prime time programming will include MTV series such as Hard Times of RJ Berger. 10 Things I Hate About You, Cougar Town with Courteney Cox, and cult series like Southpark as well as reality shows such as 16&Pregnant and Teen Mom.
The terrestrial distribution is a result of a distribution agreement between Viacom and Vocento. MTV will replace the Spanish language music channel 40 Latino.
