The Dutch public broadcasters have agreed how to cut 50 million euros per year from the budget in order to fulfil the required 200 million euro savings by 2015 contained in the coalition agreement. Details are contained in a document that Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO) together with the different broadcasting foundations has prepared and shared with CDA Minister Marja van Bijsterveld (Media).
The broadcasting foundations will collectively make 25 million euros of annual savings, and NPO will save the same amount by operating more efficiently. The structure of public broadcasting will be simplified by reducing the number of broadcasting foundations from 22 to eight. The number of digital channels and websites should also decrease.
