Furukawa offers digital TV technology in Brazil
The Japanese company Furukawa, manufacturer of advanced communications infrastructure, will offer a series of technologies aimed at the deployment of digital TV in Brazil, which will be brought from its headquarter in Japan to the facility located in Curitiba, in the south area of such country. Therefore, the company will increase its business opportunities, not only in such region but also in the rest of Latin America where several countries have already adopted the standard ISDB-T.
According to Hans Geise, Furukawa Development and Research Manager in Brazil, "in Japan, Furukawa products are widely known in the digital TV segment. In such country, HD services market is consolidated and moves more than USD 1 billion". The executive pointed out that in Brazil, Latin America and the African continent, regions where ISDB-T standard has already been adopted or is expected to (as in Africa), "the first steps in DTT are being taken", that is the reason why "we believe that we have the great opportunity to reach a good part of such markets".
One of the solutions to be presented by the company is GAP Filler, a digital channel rebroadcasting device that "extends broadcasting scope especially in indoor settings such as subways, commercial centers and stadiums, among others", explained Geise. The company informed that HD-SDI transmitter will also be available in the facility of Brazil.
In Latin America, Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela chose ISDB-T. Such standard has also been adopted by The Phillipines and it is expected that several African countries also turn to such standard. In this sense, Brazil has executed a cooperation agreement to train African technicians in case the Brazilian-Japanese standard is chosen.
