Patient Opinion gets digital treatment
The web service on patients' views on the NHS has begun to make information available through the Looking Local platform

The new service will make content from Patient Opinion, a website founded by Sheffield GP Paul Hodgkin to convey patient insights on NHS organisations, available via mobile phones and digital interactive television.
Patients in the NHS Salford area have been able to use the new service since early October and it is now being rolled out to the remainder of the health service.
"The service targets the 10m people who do not have internet access at home. This is about 30% of the population, but 55% of homes have interactive television," said a spokesperson for Looking Local, which provides interactive services on behalf of 125 local authorities, NHS trusts and housing associations.
Hodgkin said: "Patient Opinion has always been about including as many people as possible in improving their local services - so we are excited that partnering with Looking Local has allowed us to bring patient feedback to even more people through digital TV and mobile phones."
Looking Local, which is owned and managed by Kirklees Council, makes local authority information through digital interactive TV and mobile phones. It has more than 120 organisations signed up to its service.
It uses bespoke IT systems, including a web customer management system so that organisations can up load information, run polls or consultations, or enable the public to contact them.
It works with a number of other health providers, including NHS Choices and GP software provider Emis, to allow patients to book NHS appointments or order repeat prescriptions with participating surgeries via interactive television.
"This is the start of our relationship with Patient Opinion, and as they develop projects we hope to be able to add new services in partnership with them," said the spokesperson.
