Solaris Mobile Expands Network
Solaris Mobile Ltd., a Dublin-based mobile broadcast and broadband services operator, recently announced that it will be expanding its Network to cover Brussels and other surrounding areas.
To bring about this expansion, Solaris Mobile has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent and towerCast, and has built a hybrid network based on the concurrent satellite and terrestrial mobile technology.
The primary network was launched originally in November 2009 in France, where it is fully operational in the areas of Paris, Rennes, and Nancy, and later in February 2010 in Barcelona. It provides services for the radio and television broadcasts, to telephones, and other handheld devices.
The hybrid or collaborative network has been operating across the entire European Union, and enables next-generation broadband and broadcast services to customers who can access their mobile phones from any place.
The European Commission and its 27 member states have authorized Solaris Mobile to extend its operations, and the frequency bands will be adjacent to the existing 3G mobile bands, which is around 2GHz. By simply matching the range currently available, users can now directly download video, data and voice services to their smartphones or cars, with only fixed line services.
Through this deal, Solaris Mobile will be providing satellite and spec//trum lights, while Alcatel-Lucent will manage the system integrating as well as provide the transmission equipment. TowerCast has provided its sites and antennae installations.
This hybrid network will then be extended to Brussels, and will combine the instant satellite coverage along with in-depth network capabilities of the cellular mobile systems. While the satellite coverage will enable wide outdoor coverage, the terrestrial transmitters will ensure indoor reception and coverage.
