MUMBAI: In her pursuit to explore new opportunities in films, BBC Films managing director Jane Wright has decided to step down from her post this month-end.
Taking over as MD of BBC Films in 2009, Wright took the responsibility of day-to-day operations and co-production financing as well as executive producing a number of films. Most recently she executive produced West is West, the sequel to East Is East that goes up for release early next year.
Of her departure from the organisation, Wright said, "I’m incredibly proud of what's been achieved at BBC Films over the past 15 years. It’s in fantastic shape and I feel I have fulfilled everything I’d ever hoped to at BBC Films – now an extremely attractive partner for top British talent and the international film industry, and very much valued by the BBC.
“It feels like the right time to move on and explore new challenges. I've loved working with so many talented filmmakers on so many wonderful films and I look forward to working with them and my BBC Films colleagues in my future endeavours."
In 2007 Wright received Women In Film Award for her contributions to film.
Wright’s position will not be filled by a new hire, and her duties will be taken on by existing staff at BBC Films.
Senior people at BBC Films include creative director Christine Langan and executive producers Joe Oppenheimer and Jamie Laurenson.
