French media regulator the CSA has rejected a renewed approach by commercial broadcaster M6 to change its digital-terrestrial pay TV channel Paris Premiere to a free service, according to a report in daily La Tribune.
M6 had originally applied to change the channel to free-to-air in May last year, but the move was rejected by the CSA. The broadcaster has the option to appeal to the country’s Conseil d’Etat, but so far hasn’t indicated that it will do so.
M6 maintains that revenues from subscription and advertising are no longer sufficient to cover transmission costs for the channel. It is possible, in the absence of a green light to broadcast free-to-air, that the broadcaster will seek to remove the channel from the DTT platform.
