Following months of speculation, German football clubs have given a strong hint that Deutsche Telekom wants to acquire Bundesliga TV rights across all platforms and not just IPTV.
According to a report in the German daily newspaper Bild, the German telecom operator has made a tour of all the major clubs to convince them to sell the live rights to them.
At the moment, Deutsche Telekom only owns the rights to distribute the games via its IPTV platform Entertain, while Sky D holds the general TV rights.
The Deutschen Fußball Liga has recently opened up the bidding, all bids from broadcasters should be in by Monday, April 2.
Among the other bidders are Sky Deutschland and public broadcaster ARD.
Following the Bild report, Sky Deutschland shares lost about 5% on the stock market.
Meanwhile, political commentators are questioning if a company, such as Telekom, owned one third by the German state, should be allowed to enter into a bidding war for football rights.
