    Mike Reynolds --

    TBS's coverage of the Texas Rangers advancing to the franchise's first World Series on Friday night ranked as the second-most watched baseball game in cable History and helped make their matchup with the New York Yankees the most-watched League Championship Series ever for the medium.
    The Rangers' 5-1 triumph on Oct. 23 in the sixth game of the American League Championship Series over the defending World Series champions averaged a 7.2 U.S. household rating and 11.9 million viewers, according to Nielsen data.

    Game 6 delivered an 18.4 rating in the New York DMA and a 28.5 rating in the Dallas-Fort Worth market.
    Lifted by the Oct. 23 finale between the Rangers and Yankees, TBS averaged a 5.1 rating with the ALCS and 8.22 million viewers. Those performances outscored the seven-game Tampa-Bosox battle in 2008 by 11% (4.6) and 10% (7.44 million) in ratings and viewership, respectively. Texas-New York also held the edge among persons 18 to 34 (4% to 1.55 million vs. 1.48 million); persons 18 to 49 (1% to 3.39 million vs. 3.35 million); adults 25 to 54 (3% to 3.66 million vs. 3.54 million); men 18 to 34 (12% to 1.09 million vs. 977,000); guys 18 to 49 (6% to 2.37 million vs. 2.36 million); and males 25 to 54 (8% to 2.53 million vs. 2.35 million).
    When measured against TBS's coverage of the 2009 National League Championship Series (Fox and TBS alternate LCS coverage year to year under the current national contracts with MLB), the 2010 ALCS recorded major gains, including a 34% ratings jump (5.1 vs. 3.8) and 36% in viewers (8.22 vs. 6.06 million).

    Moreover, it was double-digit gains across the board on the demo watch: 29% among persons 18 to 34 (1.55 million vs. 1.19 million); 32% among persons 18 to 49 (3.39 million vs. 2.58 million); 40% among adults 25 to 54 (3.66 million vs. 2.61 million); 39% among guys 18 to 34 (1.09 million vs. 786,000); 40% among males 18 to 49 (2.37 million vs. 1.68 million); and 40% among men 25 to 54 (2.53 million vs. 1.68 million).
    The ALCS run-up boosted TBS overall postseason mark -- 21 games in the ALCS and four Division Series -- to a 3.6 ratings average, up 9% from the 3.3 with the 2009 playoffs and 9% to 5.63 million total viewers from 5.15 million a year ago, according to Nielsen.
    The rest of TBS's 2010 vs. the 2009 postseason demo scorecard:
    persons 18-34: 1.09 million vs. 1.03 million (+7%);
    persons 18-49: 2.32 million vs. 2.21 million (+5%);
    adults 25-54: 2,47 million vs. 2.28 million (+8%);
    males 18-34: 785,000 vs. 684,000 (+15%);
    males 18-49: 1.64 million vs. 1.49 million (+10%); and
    males 25-54: 1. 73 million vs. 1.54 milllion (+12%)
