French digital homes surpass 85%

At the end of the first quarter of 2010, 85.8% of the 27 million French television households have at least one digital receiver in the home, be it DTT, satellite, cable or IPTV, according to research by Mediametrie on behalf of the media authority CSA.
During the first three months of the year, about 4 million people switched to digital. More than half of all French homes have at least one DVB-T receiver – 56.8%. The CSA said digital terrestrial (or TNT as the French call it) is “the motor behind digitisation”.
With analogue switch-over happening on a region-by-region basis, the number of people dependent on analogue terrestrial reception dropped from 9.3% to 7.9 % during the quarter.
In Bourgogne, where ASO will take place on November 16, 84.8 % of all home already had digital reception equipmetnt at the end of June, 2010. Two our of three homes (66.1 %) have a DVB-T receiver. 37.4 % of all homes in the region have at least one analogue receiverm, while 11.5% is still solely dependent on analogue.
In Franche-Comté, where ASO will also take place on Nnovember 16, four out of five hones already had at least one digital receiver (79.1%) at the end of the second quarter. Here, 46 % of all viewers have already chosen for DTT reception. 29.1% still have at least one analogue receiver, while 11.3% is still dependent on analogue.
