Sharjah TV upgrades
by Chris Newbould on Oct 21, 2010
Salam Media Cast is working on a new project for Sharjah TV. This project includes upgrade of the existing system, for which SMC put forward a comprehensive proposal in terms of both user preference and the technology itself.
The proposed upgrade will help Sharjah TV to achieve its business and operational objectives and revolutionize its current production workflows by giving its journalists the power to produce and edit their own stories while providing different level of access rights to news and post-production staff according to each user’s needs.
Besides providing standard user interfaces to all creative staff in the news and post¬production business areas, this workflow also provides a fully non-linear production environment where simultaneous access to material is a given. At the same time, it provides a facility to store material long-term whilst keeping track with a rich asset management database
The tapeless installation provided to Sharjah TV includes a news server with seven inputs, six outputs and 500 hours of storage; six Avid News Cutter NLEs connected to the server; a production server with 10 inputs, eight outputs and 700 hours of storage; nine Avid Media Composer NLEs connected to the production server; front porch HSM, and a Sun SL3000 LTO-4 data tape library with an expandable storage capacity of 10,000 hours.
