CANNES: Warner Bros. International Television Distribution (WBITD) has entered into a multi-year pact that grants the free-TV and basic-cable rights for a raft of programming to an exclusive broadcaster in Scandinavia, TV4 Group.
Marking the first time WBITD has signed a pan-regional Deal exclusively with one broadcaster in Scandinavia, TV4 Group has licensed new programs from the 2011-12 season in the U.S. along with a slate from Warner Bros. Pictures that includes the box-office hit Inception. Also covered in the deal are the films Sherlock Holmes and The Blind Side, as well as upcoming releases Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Hangover 2 and Green Lantern, among others. TV4 also takes on previously released feature films and TV series from the Warner Bros. Entertainment collection and animated programming.
“This is a groundbreaking deal for us in Scandinavia and a bold move by TV4,” said Jeffrey R. Schlesinger, the president of WBITD. “The fact that we have aligned with TV4 across several countries is a sign of our confidence in them and an indication that their faith in Warner Bros to deliver superior commercial programming that will drive ratings and appeal to audiences in the region.”
Added Clara Scherman, the head of acquisitions for TV4 Group, “For the first time the TV4 Group signs an output deal that covers the Scandinavian territory. With Warner’s outstanding track record of blockbuster features and TV series and the TV4 Group’s strong position in this region I am confident that this partnership is a perfect match.”
