Romanian DTH market saturated

The number of subscribers to the Romanian DTH platform AKTA has stabilised at around 80,000, according to Dinu Malacopol, the CEO of Digital Cable Systems (DCS).
Speaking to ZF, he added that this was in keeping with the country’s satellite market being saturated. As a result, it was difficult to see where new customers would come from.
Malacopol added that DCS had enjoyed strong growth in the take-up of its internet service in the first half of this year, while take-up of analogue cable (DCS used the AKTA brand for both its cable and DTH services) also grew.
Although AKTA’s income rose by 15% in local currency in H1, it declined in euro terms. The DTH market in Romania is served by five platforms, the largest of which is Digi TV, operated by RCS/RDS. Romtelecom’s Dolce is in second place.
