LoveFilm secures 'Frozen' exclusive

LoveFilm, Europe's largest postal DVD and subscription movies streaming service, has partnered with Momentum Pictures for the exclusive release of Frozen.
The multiplatform deal, which represents LoveFilm's first such collaboration with a major studio, will enable the firm's subscribers to watch the movie online via the LoveFilm Player or rent the DVD/Blu-ray.
The horror movie will become available to LoveFilm members on October 1, long before it is released on retail DVD on October 18.
Directed by Adam Green, Frozen is the story of three skiers left stranded on a chairlift and forced to make the choice whether to stay put and freeze to death or make a perilous bid for safety.
To mark the film's release, LoveFIlm will launch a bespoke microsite for Frozen to host a range of promotional material and an integrated Facebook comments wall. Offline activity will include a special midnight screening of the film.
"With Frozen set to become a hit in the UK, launching a multi-tiered release - for the first time via the LoveFilm platform - gives us the opportunity to bring movie content to film-lovers via a number of different channels," said Momentum senior product manager Adam Eldrett.
"LoveFilm has put together a unique package and we are looking forward to the film's special online launch before it makes a full retail debut on DVD and Blu-ray from October 18th."
LoveFilm chief marketing officer Simon Morris added: "This is the first time we've partnered with a major film studio to release a title using our entire consumer platform including DVD and Blu-ray rental, watching online and direct-to-TV through the LoveFilm Player - further confirming LoveFilm as a leading force in driving film awareness in the UK."
Earlier in the week, LoveFilm launched a new application on the Yahoo network offering movie news, reviews and trailers.
