Ukrainian cableco to split
May 16, 2012 10.56 Europe/London By Chris Dziadul
The Ukrainian cable operator Triolan intends to split into a number of smaller providers.
According to AKTR and LIGABusinessInform, the news was given by Vadim Sidorenko, the co-owner of Unicast Invest, which operates Triolan in the capital, Kiev.
Triolan is present in 11 cities across Ukraine and although it employs a single brand is already operated by several different companies.
It was considered appropriate to form a union between these companies in the period 2009-11 when they were building their networks. Now that this phase is over, the companies are able to operate independently.
There has also been a dispute involving the company IT-Invest, which provides Triolan services in the city of Kharkov.
Triolan claimed to be the second largest cable operator in Ukraine after Volia at the end of 2010, with over 200,000 subscribers in 10 cities.
More recent figures put the number of subscribers receiving its internet services at 220,000 at the end of 2011.
