Boost for Russian HD
By Chris Dziadul
November 11,
The number of viewers receiving HD services in Russia may soon increase significantly.
According to AKTR and Comnews, the DTH platform Tricolor TV is negotiating to secure additional capacity – principally on Bonum-1 – in order to start offering channels in the format.
Tricolor TV is the leading provider of pay-TV services in Russia in terms of subscriber numbers and employs Eutelsat W4 and W7 in the European part of the country and RSCC’s Bonum-1 in Siberia.
It currently recommends General Satellite SD receivers that cost R7,500-10,000 (€177.4-236.5) and could suggest HD ones produced by the same company, retailing for R14,000-15,000, for any new HD services it offers.
HD services were received in 100,000 homes in Russia as of last month, with the DTH operation Platforma HD accounting for 35% of the total
