Cable boosts Spanish broadband

Spain’s broadband market has started to pick up again, with Cable driving growth.
Data published by the regulator CMT shows that there were 84,982 new registrations in September, or 29.07% more than in the same month last year.
The figure was also significantly up on August and represented an annual increase of 8.5%. As a result, the total number of broadband lines grew to 10.33 million, equivalent to 22.1 per 100 inhabitants.
Significantly, cable broadband gained 11,489 new subscribers in September, or 34.87% more than in the same month in 2009 and dwarfing the August figure of 694.
In terms of profit share in Q3, cable operators accounted for 8.27% of new lines, Telef?nica 32.21% and alternative operators 59.52%.
In terms of overall broadband market share, cable operators claimed 19.44%, Telef?nica 53.54% and alternative operators 27.02%, with Telef?nica’s down by 2.39 percentage points on 12 months earlier.
