Copaco is planning to render IPTV services in 2011
The leader of Compa??a Paraguaya de Comunicaciones (COPACO), Mario Esquivel, pointed out that the company was planning to invest USD 20 millions to launch its triple play services by 2011 end. Therefore, the state-owned company would make its IPTV launching, previously announced in 2009, real. According to La Naci?n de Paraguay newspaper, to such ends, ADSL and GPON technologies will be utilized.
In order to render IPTV services, "at least 8 megabytes of connection speed are required, whereas at present only 4 megabytes are available", explained Esquivel. This is the reason why the company is trying to optimize ADSL connection speeds by installing "telephone stations in neighborhoods already prepared to work with Internet", Esquivel highlighted. In a first stage, the devices will be installed in the capital city of Asunci?n and in the metropolitan area. Pay-TV offer will include local free-to-air and international channels.
In June this year, Esquivel announced that the state-owned company would open a bid to acquire the necessary equipment for IPTV. At that moment, the company was working on the last details of the Bid to acquire devices, though no official announcements had been made by then. Investments assigned to triple play are part of Copaco's strategy, which included the acquisition of VOX for mobile telephony launching.
