D-Link will launch its web TV set top, the Boxee Box, in the UK on 12th November – in plenty of time for Christmas.
The £199 device allows web content to be viewed on a TV, and will compete with Apple TV, as well as Google TV which has just launched in the US, but probably won’t be available in the UK for at least another year.
The Boxee Box is powered by the system-on-a-chip Intel Atom CE4100, and comes with a two-sided QWERTY remote control, and Flash 10.1 support.
As well as browsing the web and watching streamed content, users can exchange recommendations with friends via social media sites.
The box connects to a TV via HDMI only, and there are two USB slots and an SD connection for adding further media such as photos and music, or it can be streamed across a network.
It is available to pre-order from Amazon.
