Greek telco OTE has started deploying a Next Generation Access (NGA) network which will provide end-users with very high-speed broadband services and improved quality of service.
The new network will use a mix of Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre-to-the-Building/Premises (FTTB/P), with the latter subject to interest and availability. It is initially being developed in a limited number of urban centres, covering the municipalities of Alexandroupoli, Komotini, Xanthi, Serres and Zografou (Athens suburb), and will subsequently be progressively expanded to cover more areas.
In the areas mentioned above, around 1,000 cabinets will be connected with optical fibre, enabling higher access speeds to more than 125,000 homes and businesses, with download speeds of up to 50 Mbps anticipated.
