AT&T U-verse TV coming to the Xbox 360
- it's official
AT&T and Microsoft have teamed up to bring the telco's IPTV service 'U-verse TV' to the Xbox 360 games console - following years of speculation, rumours and delays.
The IPTV service will be available on subscribers' Xbox 360 consoles from October 15th, replacing the need for an extra receiver in the home, and enabling users to receive chat and game invitations from friends via Xbox Live while watching live TV, and switch from game to TV mode without switching video inputs.
It is expected to offer almost the same experience as on the usual set-top box, including the ability to watch live TV, manage and play back DVR recordings, and access interactive apps, the programme guide, the on-demand library and more.
AT&T has also announced the upcoming launch of U-verse Mobile for Windows Phone 7 devices in November via a dedicated app, which will be preloaded so that any AT&T wireless customer can download TV shows via Wi-Fi and watch them on the go, whether they are a U-verse TV subscriber or not. If they are a customer of U-verse TV, then the app will also enable them to manage their DVR recordings.
AT&T has been talking about delivering its IPTV service on the Xbox 360 console for a long time, but following delays has been overtaken by other Microsoft Mediaroom-based IPTV services, including Vodafone Portugal's 'Casa TV' service and Telus' IPTV service 'Optik TV'.
AT&T added an impressive 209,000 new subscribers to its IPTV service 'U-verse TV' in the second quarter of this year, bringing the total to 2.5mn customers.
