The French professional football league, the LFP, is expected this week to submit documents to media regulator the CSA to obtain a pay-TV channel on the country’s digital-terrestrial platform, according to local reports.
The move signals abandonment, at least for now, of an alternative plan mooted could have seen the LFP acquire Orange’s sports channels. It was Orange’s decision to withdraw from the competition for rights to cover French football that triggered the LFP’s decision to strike out on its own.
The league has until Friday to submit documentation to the CSA. However, it faces competition for the available slot from pay-TV operator Canal Plus, which wants to launch its Canal Plus Family service on the pay-DTT platform.
