Currys goes for broke with £999.99 3D package deal
Get a 50-inch Samsung plasma, Bluray player and three pairs of specs

DESPITE A TOTAL lack of enthusiasm for eye boggling 3D telly Currys has launched a 3D telly package for £999.99 that includes a 50-inch plasma Samsung 50C680, a Bluray player and 3D glasses.
In what is either a canny marketing campaign in the build up to Christmas or an act of desperation because surveys show so few want 3D tellies, Currys says its slashing £300 off the price of the 1080p Samsung 50C680 and giving away a £199 Bluray player and two additional 3D specs with it. The Samsung telly would normally only come with one pair of 3D specs, but Currys' customers will get three.
Price comparison websites do not show a cheaper package on offer and 50-inch tellies are hundreds of pounds more expensive whether they are plasma or anything else.
If consumers were not convinced by that offer Currys has gone the extra mile in reminding them that Sky TV's new 3D channel is on and on Bluray the 3D films Toy Story 3, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and Final Destination: Death Trip are now available to buy.
If quality films such as Final Destination: Death Trip are not the clincher in the value proposition then Dixons Retail, parent company of Currys, has also gone for the "keeping up with the Joneses" argument with its hostage to fortune prediction of 20 per cent of tellies sold in 2011 being 3D capable.
Meanwhile its Currys' consumer electronics category director Phil Samuels chose to make a massively obvious grammatical mistake. He said, "Importantly, we need to ensure that our customers understand that what they are getting when they buy at 3DTV is excellent quality 2D viewing with the addition of a fantastic 3D cinema experience." Importantly we need to ensure that our customers understand that what they are getting when they buy at 3DTV?
Never mind the puff, just focus on the £999.99 even if it will be cheaper in the January sales.
