Portugal Telecom is planning to broadcast certain parts of the Portuguese stage of the Rip Curl PRO surfing championship in 3D on its pay-TV service 'Meo' (delivered via IPTV and satellite).
The event will take place in Peniche on 7th-18th October, with all stages between the quarter-finals and the final to be broadcast in 3D. Production company Medialuso will be filming the action in 3D both from the shore and from the water. Portugal Telecom has already broadcast games from tennis tournament the Estoril Open this year in 3D on its pay-TV service Meo, as well as games from the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Portugal Telecom had reached 702,000 customers for its pay-TV service 'Meo' by the end of the second quarter of this year, adding 57,000 subscribers in the three-month period.
