  • Televes is participating in the development of 'intelligent' devices capable of recognising and adapting to each user

The presence of digital devices is intensifying at an increasing rate in citizens' everyday life, as well as in working environments. These devices offer more and more functions and better features, however, their great variety and the growing complexity of the technology mean they are not always easy to use. In addition, the interaction between the different services and systems is not always optimum.

This multiplicity and complexity of devices, functions and interfaces makes it very time consuming for users to learn how to use the technology within their reach, and discriminates against certain groups, such as the elderly or the disabled, for whom the use of audiovisual equipment, mobiles, remote controls, etc. is at times an arduous task.

Overcoming these difficulties by developing a technological solution that enables the placement on the market of intelligent devices capable of recognising their users and automatically adapting to their habits, likes, preferences and mental or physical conditions is the objective of the Context Based Digital Personality (CBDP) international project, in which Televes is participating.

The CBDP project proposes the development of the so-called digital personality, a concept which includes a wide range of physical, mental and behavioural characteristics of the users and groups of users of the digital devices. These will be capable of detecting that personality and adapting their operation to it. The system will be constantly supplied from the user's daily activity and will give constant feedback, enabling the devices to act in a truly coordinated and intelligent way, adapting their information and services according to the individual's tastes and preferences. When there is a group of individuals, reasoning mechanisms will be used which take into account the individual digital personalities and provide the most adequate digital environment for the group (digital personality of the group).

    User-Oriented

With the development of this technology, the aim is to create fully user-oriented digital environments, which will be essential in a future in which dependency on technological devices will continue to increase, in both working contexts and the home environment or in leisure activities.

The development of digital personality technology will not only benefit the majority sectors of society, but will also enable the creation of specific applications and service for minority or disadvantaged groups, such as people with some kind of mental or physical disability, the elderly, the sick or dependents.

In the industrial and economic aspect, the solution proposed by CBDP will lead to an improvement in the conditions of use of current devices and the creation of new devices with added-value services.

The 'Digital Personality' in the Context of Television

Within the CBDP project, Televes' work mainly focuses on the development of the digital personality in the area of television. In a context in which, with the development of DTT, the television offer will lead to a great diversification of the offer and the corresponding segmentation of the market, the possibility of generating a digital personality for a television user or group of users will allow us to offer them contents that perfectly adapt to their tastes and interests. It will also allow us to offer them products and services adapted to their specific needs or circumstances. In this way, television will become much more than just an information and entertainment service; it will become a personalised platform of services and assistance.

The CBDP initiative receives European Union financing and is executed within the framework of CELTIC projects, a program focusing on the development of end-to-end telecommunications solutions. The following companies and entities from Spain, France and Turkey are participating in CBDP:
